Early to mid September — dates to be confirmed
The Mediterranean's first major show of the autumn, spread across two ports, and the season's clearest view of new production.
Cannes opens the autumn boat show season and does so across two harbours: the Vieux Port beneath the old town, where the motor yachts sit, and Port Canto at the eastern end of the Croisette, which carries the sailing fleet and the multihulls. The character is different from Monaco three weeks later. Cannes leans toward new production rather than large brokerage, with a strong emphasis on world premieres from the European yards, and the scale of vessel is generally smaller and more numerous. That makes it the better show for a principal comparing new builds in the twenty-five to fifty metre range, or evaluating a first purchase. Sea trials run from both ports throughout, which is the show's real advantage: the boats can be taken out rather than merely walked through, in September conditions that are usually close to ideal.

Why it matters
Cannes is the only major show at which sea trials are a routine part of attendance rather than an exception, which changes the quality of a purchase decision materially. The yards bring their commercial and technical leadership, and for a first-time buyer the range on display in a single afternoon is broader than anywhere else in the season. The Riviera in early September also remains at its best, which makes a family week around the show straightforward.

Frequently asked
How does Cannes differ from the Monaco show?
Cannes emphasises new production and sea trials across a broad size range; Monaco is weighted toward large brokerage and custom builds. Many principals attend both, three weeks apart.
Are sea trials straightforward to arrange?
They are the show's principal advantage, but slots are finite and are committed in the weeks beforehand. Arranging them in advance is the difference between a useful visit and a walking tour.
Where is best to stay?
Cap d'Antibes or the Croisette for proximity; the hills behind Grasse and Saint-Paul for a quieter base twenty-five minutes away.
What does Scott & Vale arrange?
Travel, accommodation, dining, the viewing and trial schedule, and onward coastal movement, with introductions to authorised providers where such programmes exist.
